Tourists riding along Cabrillo Boulevard haven't a clue that on the other side of the beachfront, Cabrillo Pavilion is an open-air short-order eatery fronting the sands of East Beach. Bike riders make it a rendezvous point, runners stop for a food break, and visiting families drop by, all lusting for burgers, burritos and other basics. Surfers and sunbathers retire to the shade and quaff frosty beers in the lazy afternoon. Saturday and Sunday mornings, breakfast aficionados gather here to read the paper and linger over omelets and banana-wheat pancakes---arguably the city's best.
