It's advertised as "Louisiana in Santa Barbara," but most locals call Cajun Kitchen "breakfast"---and not necessarily Southern-style. California eggs Benedict, with avocado and tomato replacing the meat, is clearly a few states northwest of Cajun. Southern classics such as Creole jambalaya and crawfish etouffée do appear on the lunch menu, but make no mistake: this restaurant is at its best as a breakfast house. Load up on blueberry and wheat germ pancakes, or scrambled egg concoctions such as Lorraine's special, with spicy Italian sausage, onions, zucchini and mozzarella cheese. The service and ambience are reminiscent of countless American diners, institutions of familiarity where regulars know waitresses by name and waitresses don't have to ask what they'll be having this morning.
