Palazzio Description:
Ken Boxer scored a hit when he opened the original Palazzio on Coast Village Road in 1993; even though that location is no longer in business, his downtown Santa Barbara restaurant is still going strong. The main attractions here are friendly team-style service, addictive garlic rolls and portions so big that even if you go for half orders you're likely to haul some home. (Fortunately, quarter-orders are available at lunch.) The overkill applies to cocktails as well, with happy hours drinks you can swim laps in. While the Italian fare is far from first-rate, there are some nice dishes, such as the angel hair pasta with shrimp, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic and white wine-butter sauce. And for comfort cuisine, you can't go wrong with the roasted rosemary chicken. On Friday and Saturday nights, dinner is served until 11 p.m. and a limited menu is available till midnight.
