Merengue Bakery & Cafe Description:
In the spirit of Glendale's famous Porto's Bakery, Merengue turns out Cuban snack foods, Cuban and European pastries, and some spectacular wedding cakes. Many stop by for a morning café con leche with a more-than-respectable croissant, while others come at lunch for medianoche sandwiches (sweet bread with ham, pork, cheese and pickles, finished in a press), chorizo empanadas, creamy ham croquetas, or papas rellenas (meat-filled potato balls). Choose a dessert from a multi-cultural selection of pastries that includes éclairs, strudels and guava rolls. The café is a casual high-ceilinged space with brick and mustard walls lined with paintings of Old Havana, dominated by large pastry cases.
