The Peninsula has more than its share of burrito shacks and taco stands. Finding upscale Mexican cuisine, however, can be about as hard as locating a Cal Bears fan in this neck of the Stanford woods. That's what makes Café del Sol so special. From the white tablecloths to the artful presentations of its dishes, the restaurant delivers a very different dining experience. Meals start when taquitos, not chips and salsa, are brought to your table. After that, diners can go in any number of directions, none of which will likely be the wrong path. When in doubt, however, a good rule of thumb is to go with anything that has the fresh, sweet mango salsa. The restaurant also does an excellent job with fish dishes, especially the salmon en papillote. Red meat fans will enjoy the tender, grilled hangar steak. For dessert, don't miss the creamy flan, which ranks as one of the better custards served in this area.
