Second City Bistro Description:
Richmond Street in El Segundo was the nightlife center of town in the '30s, but then it became a quiet backwater. The crowds have returned both for the silent movie theater and a chance to eat at Second City Bistro. The bistro is one of the most exciting restaurants in the airport area, a place where modern American cuisine is celebrated. Chef Nikki Hoessly, previously of McCormick & Schmick's, prepares cranberry-thyme-crusted salmon with Champagne sauce and oven-baked pork Wellington with sage mushrooms and applewood-smoked bacon. Steaks and simpler fare are fine too---peppercorn-crusted New York steak in brandy-peppercorn sauce is rarely done this well. Service is attentive and knowledgeable and the California-focused wine list a delight. Stop in on Monday nights for complimentary wine tastings, an idea that has been bringing people in on usually quiet evenings.
