Crown Room Description:
Sunday brunch at the Hotel Del Coronado's Crown Room is quite the event. Legend has it that it's haunted by a nineteenth century beauty who may or may not have committed suicide; King Edward VIII is said to have met his future wife Wallis Simpson here; and it's also where "Some Like It Hot" with Marilyn Monroe was filmed. Inside the Crown Room itself, whimsical accents such as crown-shaped chandeliers (designed by The Wizard of Oz author Frank L. Baum, no less); the high-domed, sugar pine ceiling constructed without nails; and a jovial piano player who takes requests keep the atmosphere light. The buffet itself is vast. Eggs cooked to order; pancakes fresh off the griddle; carving stations with roasted ham and prime rib; Mexican and Japanese specialties; an array of artisan cheeses; and desserts that range from bite-size petits fours to a towering, always-flowing chocolate fountain. We suggest you skip the chafing dish choices and go straight for the made-to-order omelets, Belgian waffles and pasta creations.
