Fair Oaks Pharmacy & Soda Fountain Description:
Since 1915, the Fair Oaks Pharmacy, located on historic Route 66, has been home to a traditional corner soda fountain that has been restored and filled with antique pharmacy fixtures. This is nostalgia at its best! We feel like wide-eyed kids, bellying up to the marble counter with its chrome stools and stained-glass cabinetry. The ice cream in the sundaes, shakes and sodas is so-so (although some say the malts are the best in the area) but the ambience---and the friendly service from clean-cut, local teenagers---makes up for it. For lunch, there are Boar's Head hot dogs, Reubens and made-to-order classic sandwiches. The pharmacy itself, however, is modern, and the gift shop quite charming.
