Scarlet Tea Room Description:
Karen Mikaelian has delivered Scarlet Tea Room to Pasadena. Her five-course Scarlet Tea Ceremony includes sorbet, homemade scones with lemon curd and Scarlet cream, a selection of tea sandwiches, strawberries Romanoff and a choice of loose teas like Jade Prince oolong and Charlie Chan Cha green tea. Non-traditional items include mascarpone and floral honey with roasted pistachios, and a grilled steak sandwich on flatbread. Dinners, served weekends with live jazz, might begin with a tower of albacore with wasabi mayo, golden beet salad or smoked salmon tartare, followed by lamb chops with sour cherry-port reduction, rib-eye with horseradish cream or seared halibut in white wine sauce. The setting, with crystal chandeliers and thick white linens, creates an unexpected sense of elegance.
