All India Cafe Description:
Once you've enjoyed the unique fare at this friendly little eatery, you'll find it hard to settle for the predictable menus at most area Indian restaurants. Chef-owner Santokh Singh previously cooked at L.A.'s celebrated Bombay Café, and it shows in the diverse, intriguing menu. Start with aloo tikki, potato pancakes topped with onions, tamarind and chutney; uttapam, a thin griddlecake made with cream of wheat; or the crispy pakoras, fritters of onion, shrimp or fish. Entrées include an array of excellent curries; aromatic meats from the tandoor; and frankies, burrito-like rolls that are sold by street vendors on the beaches of Bombay. Even the desserts are satisfying, especially the Indian rice pudding and the mango or ginger ice cream. The small storefront restaurant is attractively appointed with authentic Indian artifacts.
