Eat Well Description:
Step on in and Eat Well proclaims this L.A. area chain owned by a mom and son team. And you probably will feel just like you are in Ma's kitchen---that's if you grew up on a hearty Americana diet of, say, mashed taters and steak 'n' eggs. The food here is real (as in real mashed potatoes) and the staff says no frozen vegetables will ever find its way into the kitchen, but it can be a little bit on the heavy, greasy side. The spicy sausage in the breakfast mess, for instance, is reminiscent of its low-grade, oily peers on chain-food pizza. We grant that this is fine and even expected for regular diner fare and the folks here, being aware of our painful SoCal need for healthy grub, also added some politically correct dishes like the Buddha Bowl (seasoned tofu sautéed with broccoli, mushrooms, zucchini and onions served over brown rice) and lots of vegetarian pastas. After all, Eat Well could imply that the calories lie low and fat is sparingly used. But, on the other hand, do try one of the tasty root beer floats, too!
