Velvet Matador Catina Description:
Located in one of the oldest buildings in Fullerton (circa 1899), the interior of Matador is sophisticated with warm red-brick walls, romantic candlelight, a 50-foot wooden bar, chocolate-brown leather half-moon banquettes and flamboyant red chandeliers. The menu features mostly traditional Mexican favorites, but also offers some good fusion dishes. First, however, start with a well-mixed cocktail like the strong house margarita or the jalapeño-infused martini. Next, try the creamy queso fundido dip or the charbroiled spicy wings with cotija cheese sauce. Entrée standouts are the soft and crusty chile relleno, unusual chorizo ravioli and the baby-back ribs with chipotle tequila lime barbecue sauce. Don't miss the super-moist carrot cake and dulce de leche ice cream mud pie. The Matador also offers curbside service. On Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Matador Cantina offers an à la carte brunch menu with dishes such as a vegetarian omelet, fluffy pancakes and huevos rancheros.
