Lucas Trattoria Description:
Located in the same neighborhood shopping center as his Bistro Provence, quick-witted chef/owner Miki Zivkovic has opened this tiny trattoria with the kinds of prices appreciated by the locals. Candlelit tables, sans cloths, are scattered around a central bar, while additional seating is offered on an enclosed patio, making for a casual, convivial spot. Begin with a Caesar or Sophia salad (named after the chef's daughter, it involves beets, goat cheese and a Champagne vinaigrette), fried calamari, or first-rate spinach gnocchi with pancetta and vegetables in a Parmesan nage. Pastas (e.g. a comforting three-cheese lasagna, penne carbonara) are more than respectable, and the kitchen always does a fine job with risotto, even an intriguing corn "risotto" with onions and lardons. Entrées such as Parmesan-crusted chicken in lemon-garlic sauce and grilled salmon in peppercorn sauce reveal the casual finesse found at Bistro Provence and Zivkovic's more ambitious Burbank restaurant, Third & Olive.
