Bistro Province Description:
Gregarious chef-owner Miki Zivkovic, previously the chef at Pinot Bistro, is behind this inviting California bistro incongruously set in a Burbank shopping center. With its mustard-yellow walls, warm wood paneling and linen-clad tables, it's a handsome, homey environment in which to enjoy the creations of one of the Valley's top chefs. The restaurant has now adopted a three-course prix-fixe format, which at $26 represents a screaming value. From about eight starters, one can choose smoked salmon with potato croquette and horseradish crème fraîche or fennel-crusted ahi with Niçoise salad. An equal number of entrées includes duck breast with sage spätzle and honey-balsamic sauce, butternut squash risotto or beef bourguignon, while desserts might range from profiteroles to bread pudding. Staff is pleasant and the personable chef loves to work the room. In Burbank, where chain restaurants dominate, Bistro Provence is a delightful option within the local dining scene.
