L'Amante Description:
Where pale ale takes precedence over Barolo, it's no surprise most metro-Vermonters have never heard of this dimly lit Burlington room. But while L'Amante shares the same street lamps as the corner pub, it offers a far more refined dining experience. Co-owners Kathi and Kevin Cleary---the latter of whom wore the toque at Boston's Pignoli---deliver some of this town's best handspun Italian. From elegant treats like honey tempura squash blossoms stuffed with mild Taleggio to the standout Gorgonzola gnocchi to the creamy (not al dente) mushroom risotto topped with smoky slices of grilled quail, there is a surfeit of riches. Better yet, since primi piatti can be ordered in half or full portions, you can often partake of them all. You'll find authentic Bellinis on the chic list of cocktails, but we recommend you order from the notable wine cellar. Unfortunately, only a handful of Cleary's collection is offered by the glass, which means you can't even begin to plumb its depths in one trip. But you can at least start with a soft Dolcetta before pairing your pasta with the big, chocolate tones of a 2000 Castellani Seral.
