Set behind a brick courtyard just off City Hall Park, this wine bar-cum-steakhouse is practically hidden from view. But owners Ozzy and Mariasha Giral don't seem to mind. Their bohemian baby is one of Burlington's brightest stars. The café's cozy European décor swims in red velvet drapes and mismatched settings, a dimly lit corner that evokes funky elegance. CAB-Choice (Certified Angus Beef) cuts dominate the bistro's bill of fare, and though seasonal treats like spaghetti squash are available, the ten-table room caters to red-blooded appetites. Why miss the chance to pit rich Kobe rib-eye against succulent filet mignon? Some might resent the outsourced steaks, but these dishes represent the ultra luxe; exotic, delicately salted beef stuns the palate. Locavores can rest easy, as dishes are complemented with native kale and Vermont's own Boucher blue cheese. Coupled with steak-friendly pours from around the world, Giral's mandate seems clear. Nose the wine list at length, and match crisp salads with clean Prosecco, before wading into a sea of lush Australian Shiraz. The bar's deeply bowled stemware is spot on, affording patrons epic swirls.
