Dorado Tacos & Cemitas Description:
Serves tacos, cemitas (a Mexican sandwich), and rotisserie chicken.
Located on the #66 MBTA bus route, and several blocks from the Green Line B (Harvard Ave. stop) and C (Coolidge Corner stop) branches.
In a city pulsing with burrito and taco joints, Dorado sets itself apart. First of all, you won't find bomb-size burritos here. You also won't be tempted by heaping platters of rice and refried beans. This is a taco shack in the California tradition---close your eyes, and you can almost picture bronzed surfers ambling up to the counter after a day riding the waves. Whitefish tacos get three different treatments: the Dorado is coated in a spunky chipotle crema; the Ensenada boasts pickled onions and Baha crema; and the Asiatico gets a fiery "dynamite crema." Grilled swordfish tacos come with avocado salsa and crisp green cabbage; the shrimp tacos, meanwhile, are beer-battered and crowned in pineapple salsa. Dorado's other specialty is "cemitas," a Mexican street-food sandwich. Nestled between a sesame seed egg roll, you'll find fresh black beans, chipotles en adobo, and Oaxaca cheese. Electives include chorizo, mushroom, steak, pork loin or chicken. A respectable smattering of salads and Mexican sweet corn round out the menu. The stools and chairs are somewhat uncomfortable, and the small room can get noisy, so we recommend grabbing your tacos to go.
