Bracebridge, Ont, Town, pop 13 751 (2001c), 13 223 (1996c), 12 308 (1991c), 9811 (1986c), area 617.47 km2, inc 1889 is located in the District Municipality of Muskoka, on the north branch of the Muskoka River. In 1860 J.S. Dennis brought his survey party by canoe to the vicinity of the falls. The location was advantageous as a convenient crossing (a rough-hewn bridge was built close to the falls) and as a source of water power.
