Ivy Restaurant Description:
A neighborhood cafe, serving small plates of contemporary Italian fare.
The unusual wine list is mostly comprised of bottles selling for the same price ($26 as of June, 2007), although there are a few higher-priced sparkling wines. Several wines are also offered by the glass.
Occupying Downtown Crossing real estate that though prime, remained vacant for well over a year, this Italian eatery aims to make up for lost time---serving both lunch and dinner in the urban, loft-like, split-level dining room and cocktails in the tiny lounge below. The offerings themselves are satisfyingly simple---grilled meats, familiar pasta dishes, traditional snacks from all over the boot; for their part, the assortments of salumi and formaggi, the sautéed mussels and an oozing block of truffled mac 'n' cheese pack expected punch. It's the portions that distinguish them: a mix of small plates and platters for two encourages leisurely, convivial dining, as does an affordable wine list (all bottles are $26). We have yet to be wowed, but we always feel welcomed.
