Hoover's Cooking Description:
The fact that Hoover's gives its patrons red trays lined with butcher paper and multiple napkins instead of plates says it all: this restaurant is all about filling the belly with heaping portions of sloppy, yet ridiculously satisfying soul food. House Warmers like pepper-fired chicken wings are rich with smoky flavor and serve as a nice prelude to the stick-to-your-rib entrées. The half Jamaican jerk chicken, Elgin sausage, and fried catfish are among our favorites, and each comes with its choice of "housemates" like jalapeño creamed spinach, macaroni and cheese, and candied yams. These side dishes threaten to steal the show and make for a terrific meal in themselves for vegetarians. If you still have a few more notches on your belt, go for the tart, rich chocolate cranberry cheesecake or the "Good for Nuttin" brownie sundae, which brings back childhood memories of the corner ice cream parlor. The weekend breakfast menu features one of the best sandwiches in town, the Hoover's Muffelata, which stacks two fried eggs, bacon, ham, cheddar, lettuce and tomato in between two buttery bun halves.
