Fontaine's Oyster House Description:
Inspired by the classic, slightly down-at-the-heel New Orleans oyster house, Fontaine's devotes itself to creative ways with oysters. We think unadorned raw is best, with a splash of lemon, but there are versions of the popular variations. But we object to cheeses on our Rockefeller, as cheese and shellfish are mutually exclusive. Starters of choice are, of course, oysters, although there are soups too. The lobster bisque is a standout, but we find the oyster stew thin in the oyster department and not creamy-rich enough. The oysters here are mostly Gulfers, but specialty oysters also are usually on offer, such as Blue Points and Beausoleils. Fried seafood is lightly battered and the muffuleteta is quite good. Specials Sunday through Wednesday abate the prices on selected items. Fontaine's bar stays open until 3 a.m. weeknights and Saturdays, and midnight on Sundays, but food service stops at midnight and at 11 p.m. on Sundays.
