Alpha Soda Restaurant Description:
Turn-of-the-twentieth-century-style acid-etched glass, pressed-tin ceilings and burnished wood trims give Alpha Soda the 1920s-era ambience of its original Alpharetta location. The cooking is drawn from tradition, with some not-too-successful "contemporary" upgrades. With your classic country-fried steak and brown gravy you get a choice of two sides from a rather long list. The collard greens are nicely cooked, but with that lurking sense of sweetness that says they've been prepared by a Northern hand; the presence of hot vinegar sauce allows one to restore their balance. The mac 'n' cheese is fairly standard. Daily specials are the dishes to target, but we also suggest the sandwiches, deep-fried catfish and the tomato-sauced meatloaf. This isn't wine list country, so the offerings are fairly pedestrian.
