This small, rarely visited town was the site of one of the original Seven Churches of Asia Minor. Founded by the Greeks in 280 BC, Akhisar is a good place to overnight if you're making a two-day tour of Alasehir, Bergama, Sardes and Denizli. Alternately, Akhisar can be seen on a very long day trip from Izmir. 52 mi/84 km northeast of Izmir, or about 300 mi/485 km west of Ankara.
