This jovial, bustling restaurant is a neighborhood hangout, but visitors shouldn't hesitate to stop by for a meal or a pint of local beer. Lake Street Café is divided into two rooms: a casual bar area with communal tables and a billboard portraying Milwaukee's beer barons, and a dining room with white tablecloths beyond. The menus are all contained in old books, while the desserts are listed in DVD cases. Start with baked Brie en croûte or the signature Lake Street Salad with roasted red and yellow peppers, tomatoes, scallions and black olives before enjoying home-style dishes such as the orecchiette pasta with Italian sausage and ragù and the New York strip steak served with Port wine demi-glace and horseradish mashed potatoes. A variety of sandwiches and wood-fired pizzas are available, as well as a children's menu.
