Wazzabi Description:
Pricey sushi, teppanyaki tables and outdoor dining (even if the front porch is just off busy Orlando Avenue) create a contemporary hot-spot for Japanese cuisine. If you just want fresh fish, take a seat at the sushi bar, order a martini (they have nine varieties) or saké and nosh away. But this is the place to go for Americanized sushi---the notable Heaven Roll, for instance, is fanned out across a dinner-size plate with coconut shrimp, avocado, scallion and asparagus wrapped with tempura kani, then smothered with Japanese mayo, lime zest, chili oil, scallion and a sprinkle of spices. (If you're looking for simplicity, there is a sushi sampler with tuna, salmon, red snapper and shrimp.) Or if you prefer your food cooked, the expansive menu offers everything from a lobster tail in Champagne-butter sauce to rack of lamb and pan-seared pork medallions. A decent wine list with more than 30 selections by the glass includes something for everyone, from a sweet Riesling to Cabernets. Just across from Winter Park Village, the place gets very crowded on weekends, and the only reservations taken are for the teppanyaki tables.
