Ruth's Chris Steak House Description:
There's not a single window to the outside in this cocoon of high-end dining, with a clubby ambience that is not quite stuffy, but diners are dressed for an evening out, many appearing to be celebrating one thing or another. Tuxedoed waiters are as professional as we've found in Central Florida. Starters are not an afterthought: sautéed shrimp in white wine, butter and garlic, or jumbo lump crab cakes are fine beginnings, but we recommend Ruth's chopped salad. Steaks are cooked in butter unless you request otherwise, from a petite filet to a porterhouse for two. Servers hesitate to recommend rare, but the steaks arrive at the table on sizzling platters and the meat continues to cook while you dine, so order a touch rarer than you usually might. All side orders are extra, and plenty to share, like the fresh spinach au gratin. If beef is not your preference, the menu offers fresh lobster, chicken breast, lamb and veal. The wine list is unremarkable, but there are plenty of solid selections to accompany a good steak. And if you dare, order the chocolate sin cake, doused with espresso, or the warm apple crumb tart with vanilla ice cream.
