Orchid Thai Cuisine Description:
Orchid resides on a quiet stretch of Park Avenue, far from the cluster of restaurants on the street's south end. But it's worth the casual stroll to the family-owned spot with a half-dozen tables for al fresco dining streetside and about ten tables inside, along with a handful of seats at the bar. You can nosh on appetizers such as Thai summer rolls, skinny fried rolls stuffed with ground chicken, steamed dumplings or curry puffs. Don't hesitate to ask for extra lime or spice if you prefer heat (especially for the lemon grass soup). For light fare, the generous green papaya salad is a meal, tossed with tomato, chopped peanuts and a spicy lime dressing. Entrées range from crispy duck and braised short rib in sweet chili sauce to bowls of green curry with chicken or shrimp, pad thai and larb (minced) chicken with red onion, cilantro, mint, lime juice and jasmine rice. If it's mango season, share a bowl of coconut sticky rice with mango for dessert.
