California Pizza Kitchen Description:
It's not authentic Italian pizza or classic Italian-American pizza. It's California pizza---the kind of individual designer pies (with fresh, globally-influenced toppings) originated by Wolfgang Puck at Spago three decades ago. And when in a suitably chichi mood, we have not once been disappointed by this chain. The list of two dozen crispy-crusted pizzas includes a requisite tomato-basil pie, but there are also global-fusion-style inventions such as the Thai Chicken pizza with peanut-ginger sauce. The Original BBQ Chicken pie is CPK's most popular pizza. But we prefer the piquant elegance of the pear and Gorgonzola (caramelized pears and sweet onions, three cheeses and chopped hazelnuts, garnished after baking with mesclun tossed in Gorgonzola dressing). Salads and (in full service locations) pasta entrées with global sauces, plus soups, sandwiches on hearth-baked focaccia, and filling desserts round out the menu.
