The Corner Pug Description:
Diners can enjoy a hearty, out-of-the-ordinary meal here for the same price they'd pay at a nondescript chain bistro, best washed down with the sort of dark beer they probably wouldn't find at said franchise. The service strives to please, remaining attentive despite peak-hour crowds (Sunday brunch is a big draw as well). As for the kitchen, it does hearty pub fare all the way: start with the savory, cooked-to-order pug fries with tangy English blue cheese dipping sauce or a crock of quahog chowder, then move on to comforts from either side of the pond---a big, juicy burger, say, or meaty shepherd's pie topped with a fluffy layer of browned mashed potatoes, or the filling meatloaf platter. To get back to that beer: we're partial to Old Speckled Hen, a creamy English ale, but the extensive draught selection includes other European favorites and even Connecticut's own Ten Penny Ale. Though it may be a battle, try and save room for dessert. A piping cup of Earl Grey tea goes well with our favorite---bananas Foster in syrupy rum sauce, liberally adorned with almond-flecked whipped cream.
