Shish Kebab House enchants diners well before they even take a seat at one of their comfy tables---an array of beautifully decorated Persian rugs dominate the cozy yet sophisticated dining room, whose air is rich with exotic spices. If you're unfamiliar with Afghan cuisine, you'll probably notice more than just a passing similarity to Indian food: both rely heavily on purées, yogurt, and a liberal amount of seasoning. (Indeed, you'll even find samosas here.) The diverse menu features appetizers like the pumpkin-based kadu, noodle dishes, a variety of grilled and skewered meats, poultry and seafood, and a number of authentic Afghan desserts. Not sure where to start? Try the Afghan House Dinner Treat, a tasting menu that offers a little bit of everything (the menu points out that it's the sort of feast you might expect if you were invited into an Afghan home)---and it's practically a bargain at $33 per person, although it can only be ordered by parties of four or more.
