Casual yet elegant, festive yet relaxing, conservative here and contemporary there---as the canteen for the Rockledge Golf Course, Angelo's has to walk a fine line with confidence and grace. After all, it must be all things to all people---a pub for weary golfers, a quickie eatery for families with children, a source of tradition for the older clientele and one of refinement for the wheeler-dealers. Often it succeeds; the kitchen can as easily whip up barbecued chicken tenders for a fussy teen as it can a thick, juicy New York strip with seasoned herb butter for a CEO. Appetizers alone often satisfy---crab-and-corn soup made new with raspberry sour cream, plus an order of classic clams casino, amounts to a meal in itself. In fact, while most of the entrées aren't exactly revolutionary, a bit more creativity inheres in the smaller plates and snack items, from a veggie quesadilla that surprises with its dollop of artichoke pesto to a super-light sauté of scallops and grapes. When the weather's good, dining on the patio overlooking the 18th green can be thoroughly relaxing, but be warned---since Angelo's remains a popular area location for large gatherings, boisterous groups of revelers can sometimes interfere.
