Surabaya Restaurant Description:
Surabaya is a classic indonesian restaurant. The cuisine comes from all parts of Indonesia and has a good cross section of dishes from eastern, central and western Java as well as Sumatra. Sate ( small chunks of skewered, grilled meats) and Goreng (fried rice dishes mixed with various meats and/or seafood) dominate their menu. The basics like Gado-Gado ( Indonesian salad), Rujak ( Indonesian fruit salad), Soto Ayan ( chicken soup)are all available but some special dishes also make the list. Ayam Goreng ( classic Indonesian fried chicken in coconut milk), Es Alpukat ( coffee with avocado) and Perkedel (a Dutch dish of deep fried potato stuffed with groung chicken, carrots and green beans). The classic Sambals (spicy dipping sauce) "Ulek" and "Teresi" (i.e Trassi) are available, just ask.
The restaurant is located in a mini mall and seats forty people at most. A large screen T.V. sits in the back and plays asian videos while a nearby musical keyboard gives a clue that live music is available (weekends). The atmosphere is friendly and warm as is the decorations. Travel posters and various trinkits adorn the walls. The decor is simple and plesant.
Most dishes are under $10 but dining here is like eating Chinese. You'll want to order more than one. Expect a cost or $20-30 for dinner ( no alcohol) and $8-12 for lunch ( no alcohol).
