Clydes Willow Creek Farm Description:
While evenings tend to be the busiest times here---and, yes, you can and should make reservations---middays are quiet enough so patrons can browse the premises and soak up the country-in-the-suburbs atmosphere. It's hard to believe that with its grounds and mini farm out back that this Clyde's is adjacent to the burgeoning Virginia suburban developments. Indeed, the setting and revamped farmhouse carefully reconstruct an earlier-era Virginia of landed gentry and rural splendor. Even the interiors reflect gentility: the Audubon room is brightened by multiple Currier and Ives' style bird prints, while the Carriage room with its overhead buggies and harnesses hanging on the walls suggest that farm life rolled on smoothly. But the modern-day menu is all-American contemporary with a few retro perks. For one, The Wedge salad is an updated iceberg lettuce dish with bits of bacon and a creamy blue cheese dressing. Daily special entrées vary from visit to visit, but such regulars as the crab cakes, Clyde's hamburgers, and the Buffalo chicken wrap always make welcome diversions. Hint: Order the chef's sticky toffee pudding for dessert.
