Harvest of India Description:
Beloved by locals for years, this stalwart Indian restaurant has a very loyal following, with many making this a weekly destination. That must explain the crowds, especially on Saturday nights, when the line weaves out the door with people waiting patiently for their turn for the tandoori breads. Since Indian food has become one of DC's culinary vogues, you'll find a fairly representative menu of slightly pricey foods, all cooked with moderate seasonings and a certain flair. We've made a habit of starting off with the appetizer platter, the surest way to get a decent sampling of goodies, before moving on to such entrée dishes as the chicken tikka (yogurt-marinated chicken grilled in the tandoor) or the lamb vindaloo, never hot enough here. Even if the kitchen fears a Western refusal of hot spices, the cook does his best to satisfy with a delightful assortment of tandoori and oven-grilled breads: the garlic and Kashmiri naans are winners. Desserts stick to the traditional Indian offerings, except for the Mango Tango, which is a westernized pairing of sliced mangoes and ice cream.
