Eurasia Café & Wine Bar Description:
It's not identical to its Virginia Beach progenitor, it's nearly double the size and more than half its menu is different, but Richmond's Eurasia Café & Wine Bar sprouts the same fresh sensibility and warm congeniality. Among the dishes transplanted from the Beach are fried oysters with Old Bay beurre blanc and crispy vegetable spring rolls. And like at the Beach, the conscientiously priced menu is offered at lunch and dinner, so you can order well-composed salads and sandwiches, such as roasted beet and goat cheese salad, lobster roll or a pork cutlet sandwich day or night. But most of the entrées are unique to this locale, be it grain mustard-glazed short ribs or pan-seared diver scallops with Serrano ham and mascarpone risotto. A respect for local products, wine and sustainability prevails, and dishes don't force the inherited occidental-Asian moniker. That's why you can get flank steak frites or the oh-so-Charlestonian shrimp and stone-ground grits, while your date can order hoisin duck confit with foie gras wonton which, indeed, embodies the East meets West implied in the name.
