We had hoped to find a worthy newcomer to the local sushi world, but realized that this place falls short of the mark. For one, the sushi seemed mass-produced, though that may be unfair, and the assorted tempura, was wrapped in the wrong kind of batter. Yet, the kitchen should get a few good marks for its unusual array of appetizers, including broccoli yaki, asparagus yaki, and portobello yaki. Also look for a strictly Washington dish called the Rose Garden Sashimi. For local business folk, Kanpai offers a special lunch menu with seven different categories---donburi, tempura, and teriyaki, for example---priced for the office worker's pocket.
