We had such an upsetting experience at Jules and I wouldn't want any other diner to have to go through this. We arrived at 830 on a Tuesday night; there were four of us and we wanted to have desert and wine. We waited for a bit and then were seated by the owner. A few minutes later, when he realized we were there for desert, he stormed up to the table and shouted at us and tried to humiliate us. He simply raised his voice and demanded to know why we did not inform him we only wanted dessert and how he was shocked that hadn't. He said he could have seated other people in our seats and wondered how four people could sit down only for dessert. Other diners looked on and we were shocked by his behaviour. We have been to Jules many times before and we have taken our friends there. We were embarrassed that our friends were treated like this at a place we had recommended and we were totally furious. The owner of the restaurant didn't even acknowledge the fact that we have been there so many times before. The food is good and the prices are decent but a man like this does not deserve the business. I have never written a bad review before...I've never even felt compelled to write a review before but I just felt that I needed to tell people what had happened.7

I went here for a friends birthday and had a terrible experience, I ordered the three course meal and the waitress gave my salad to another person, she took my friends meal away before he was finished and wiped a dirty napkin in the chocolate sauce of my desert, she also moved our water glasses by the rim while we were still using them. We complained to the owner who said that we had ordered our meals wrong (whatever that means). The service was so rude by the end of the evening we were almost laughing. There was an automatic 18% tip added to the bill.I seriously considered calling the vancouver police to ask if it would be considered an offence to not pay the tip. I will never, ever, ever, ever.... go back again.

No one was friendly as soon as we walked in the door - smiling must be a disease at this place. Was a very uncomfortable dining experience. Would never return to Jules.

I am still not so excited about coming to gastown on the border of East Hastings at night for dinner... but I begrudgingly went. I am happy I did....
Jules is on Abbot, just north of Pender. The area isn't great, and they do not have valet, but we happened to find a spot right in front, so bonus to the evening.
We walked in to a perfectly appointed French Bostro, kind of like something you would find in Outremont in Montreal. It was very nicely decorated, but in an eclectic French style that made it more authentic. We were three dinners and we all had the Special, which included a salad, a fish or steak and frites (fries, yummy), with a chocolate terrine dessert. Along with a couple of glasses of wine each, the evening was great. Total damage was $160, tax and tip included, or about $53 a person, which is about right.
I will repeat happily...

After always having been disappointed by the high-end restaurants in Vancouver, I had set my expectation for Jules very low. That turned out to be an ideal vantage as I was pleasantly surprised by this experience.
Jules is quite popular so I would suggest making reservations. We had ours set for At 8.30pm on a Saturday evening, and upon arriving, noticed that the place was very busy.
I went with my fiance, and we both ordered the lobster and crab bisque to start and after a few spoonfuls we both agreed that it was one of those bisques that you could be happy not having anything else but more helpings.... Yumm, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
For mains, I had the chicken shepherd's pie and my fiance the beef tenderloin. The pie was very tasty and light, the potatoes being extremely creamy, which I like. The tenderloin was the perfect size and well complemented by the ratatouille and scalloped potatoes.
Overall a great experience and recommended to all...
