Amarcord really knows how to please. I had a friend visit me from Seattle and I wanted to bring him to a place that wasn't too pretentious. Amarcord was the perfect place located in the heart of yaletown. Thankgoodness, I made a reservation, as this place was packed on a wednesday night. I guess I'm not the only one that knows about this gem. Our waiter was very professional and made some great recommendations. I ordered the tortellini in brodo to start then Lobster spaghetti(highly recommended). I was blown away! The appetizer was done just right and my lobster dish was absolutely delicious. My friend ordered the beef carpaccio to start and the gnocci cardinale. He was equally impressed. For dessert, we shared their home made tirimisu. I am a dessert fanatic and have honestly tried every single tirimisu in town and I have to say - this was to die for. I even got a piece to go! After our meal, we order a couple cappucinos and sat there to chat for a bit. The waiter was attentive but not over bearing. He checked on us at the right times and we did not once feel rushed. My friend and I had a very pleasant evening. The owner himself came around to chat and asked us how our evening and our meal was. The owner was very nice. He told us that the food the restaurant makes is from the Emilia Romagna region. My friend called me from Seattle and told me he's coming back next weekend so we're going to be visitng this restaurant again!

This is my first online review but I felt compelled to write. We took our daughter there on March 16 for her birthday dinner. It was a special occasion and the evening started off well. I ordered a glass of shiraz...half an hour later with about 1/2 inch of the wine left in my glass, I noticed a large piece of sediment about 1/2 inch in diameter at the bottom of the glass (I think it was sediment). It was disgustingly excessive for what might be sediment...as if any wine sediment was even permissible at a hi-end restaurant. I told the server in dismay. She non-chalantly took the glass away and ignored the whole situation. Our food came...15 minutes later, the manager came by as part of the normal round to see how the food was and I relayed my discontent about that partial glass of wine and how this was being ignored. The server came back shortly and asked what I would like her to do, I said to at least acknowledge there was a problem and to replace it or something. Shockingly, she came back with a new wine glass filled with only 1/2 inch of wine...just the amount I had left unfinished. Talk about adding insult to injury. How tacky! Of course, I was fuming but my family did not want me to make a scene since this was a special occasion...my daughter's birthday. Top it all off, when the bill came..they charged me for the $9 glass of wine. They just don't get it! On the way out, the manager had the nerve to say "Hope you had a good evening". I frequent many fine-dining establishments both in Vancouver and in my travels...and this is such shocking behaviour that I had to share this. I initially went to their website but they don't even have an email address for one to provide feedback. I will never go back there again!

I do love Gnocchi. Amarcord has such a huge variety featured on their menu, I actually had to decide between three diffrent kinds. That has never happend to me in all of my Italian dining experiences. I was pleased as punch. The prices are a bit steep but with such a massive selection, it would be nearly impossible to order something that wasn't exactly what you had in mind.
