Modern, urban, 40 seat wine-bar style restaurant serving small plates and a three-course prix fixe menu. Many wines by the glass.
The intimate and aptly named CRU, with chef Alana Peckham's smart flavor sensibility and sommelier Mark Taylor's pairing savvy, has become a Vancouver wine mecca in the tony South Granville neighborhood. The focus is "fun and easy," and the menu definitely gets this point across---each item is color-coded to descriptions on the user-friendly international wine list (think "crisp," "luscious," "juicy," "smooth") and all wines are sold by the glass. Try a three-course, prix-fixe offering with "mix and match" choices, or go for the casual small plates that come in two sizes. Caesar salad here has been elevated to an art form---a quick grilling imparts a hint of smoke and the croutons are made to order. The duo may just have the best duck confit in town---crackling skin outside with a hint of vinegar balances the rich meaty flavor. Be sure to save room for the warm apple galette graced with frangipane and vanilla ice cream.
