An active day on the slopes of Brian Head or hiking Cedar Breaks National Monument produces a hearty appetite. But although Double Black Diamond Steakhouse is one of the only fine-dining spots in a 40-mile radius, it doesn't rest on its laurels or take advantage of a captive audience. The hotel-based restaurant focuses on hearty portions of Prime cuts of steak and seafood to satisfy the pickiest palates. Comfortable surroundings distinguished by mountain-home furnishings and a blazing fireplace cater to dating couples and families alike. The pan-seared sea bass with sweet citrus and brandy cream makes us forget we're dining in a land-locked state. And the tender buffalo filet topped with candied walnuts and demi-glace or the pork loin chop---coated with pistachios and bread crumbs, topped with an herb-mustard cream sauce---send us into a satisfied food nirvana. Don't leave before trying the bourbon pecan pie.
