Last Resort Grill Description:
In its original days, The Last Resort was a music venue, gathering University of Georgia students along long plank tables to drain pitchers of beer and listen to their favorite folk music groups. Truly a linchpin in Athens' history as a music-driven town, The Last Resort hosted many a major performer. Today, it's a much different place with the same name in the same spot. Handy for east metro Atlantans, the place is worth the trip for brunch. It's famous for its singularly tasty vegetarian cooking, especially the black bean crêpes, made from cornmeal, and served blintz-style, stuffed with well-seasoned black beans. Grilled fresh vegetables accompany this reasonably priced dish. Even the duo of crab cakes doesn't break a ten-spot; neither do the brunch main courses. Dinner entrées stay at or under $17, although a few are market priced. The wine list has stepped up in quality, and glassware has improved, too. The good coffee is from Jittery Joe's, a top local roaster.
