The Warrington Description:
This splendid Victorian building, once a hotel, has been transformed into a gastropub---part of top chef Gordon Ramsay's expanding empire. The downstairs, lovely wood-panelled room remains as a bar with stained glass and etched mirrors a leftover from its Victorian grandeur; the upstairs dining room is light and airy but relatively characterless. The cooking mostly hits the mark. Using good ingredients, the likes of potted duck with damson and juniper jelly, lemon sole and dressed crab are first-rate though some dishes do not come up to scratch and a veal burger with a soft fried egg may be disappointing. Service is reasonable and the wine list good, but Gordon Ramsay's name should ensure a top quality experience and this, though fun, is not yet that.
