Tom's Kitchen Description:
Just around the corner from his eponymous restaurant, chef Tom Aikens opened a thoroughly attractive, relatively simply eatery that offers all-day dining to everyone---families especially. The décor fits the concept, with wooden tables that can seat up to eight people. It's a return to pure British cooking, and boy, is it good. Think brasserie with international influences delivered through Caesar salad, burgers and various pastas, and you've got the formula. Try one of the soups, or the root vegetable risotto with Fontina, crisp toasted walnuts and crème fraîche; or the rich, seven-hour confit of lamb, the whole lifted with the slightest touch of balsamic vinegar. The team sources many of their ingredients, particularly the meat, from artisan suppliers who are traditionally much more expensive, but the prices remain reasonable. The place is fun, and invariably buzzing; the service is unfussy and the wine list ditto.
