The owners of Pied à Terre, manager David Moore and chef Shane Osborn, have set up L'Autre Pied in Marylebone with their protégé, the talented Marcus Eaves, who presides over the stoves here. The restaurant is small, its rooms lightened with hand-painted walls and screens. The atmosphere is more casual than at its big sister, but the cooking is serious with flavours delivering a real punch. From the set lunch and pre-theatre menu, a starter of caramelized sage and onion velouté with onion and Vacherin Mont d'Or, followed by celeriac and herb risotto with caramelized celeriac pureé is a rich meeting of tastes and textures. The à la carte menu offers the likes of roast Gressingham duck breast with carrots and mango purée, caramelized mango and confit potatoes; and confit organic salmon with mussels, cauliflower and horseradish cream---all strong on taste. This is confident, accomplished cooking from an enthusiastic team. The wine list ranges worldwide with a large number of wines by the glass and half bottles and a good range of full bottles between £20 and £40. Service is charming and efficient making this one of London's most delightful venues. Lunch, pre-theatre 6pm-7pm 2 courses £17.95, 3 courses £20.95.
