This is a great spot with really good food. An especially good place for family dining. Nothing formal but great food and a friendly atmosphere. as for the fellow who was looking for tomato chunks in his sauce, I think he doesn't know northern Italian cooking.

My wife, son, and daughter-in-law attended the Colander on Easter weekend 2010, along with EVERYONE IN TRAIL AND SURROUNDING AREA !
I had the spaghetti and ribs, as did our son. THE BEST EVER ! A full rack of spiced ribs, never-ending spaghetti and rich, thick sauce(just how I like it). Great food, great service, GREAT value.
NOW I have to figure out the recipe for home!!

With all the glowing reviews I'm forced to give my honest opinion. After reading about their spaghetti and meatballs I had high expectations. Suffice it to say they fell far short of the mark. There is nothing special about their spaghetti, meatballs or sauce. Regular everyday pasta, large densely packed meatballs (little flavor), plain tomato sauce. I'm a great lover of spaghetti it can be great dish that is very flavorful and pleasing to the palate. This however was not. There is absolutely no veg in the sauce. No chunks of tomato to add to the texture and flavor. Little if any herbs or spices. The worst part for me was the disappointment after hearing/reading such good things.

At the Colander I had a terrific evening. The staff were very pleasant and made me feel so welcome. The food was fantastic. I would highly recommend this restaurant as a must do any time I would be in Trail, BC.

I ate at this place when I was a kid 40 years ago. I moved away and went back this past summer. It is new location but everything is just bigger and better!! The food is amazing. My wife and two kids (15 and 11) all rave about it. We brought the leftovers with us and ate them for breakfast and lunch the next day right down to the last bite. The service, pricing and atmosphere is fabulous too. I would recommend this place to everyone!!

I have traveled around in Pacific NW and always look forward to at least one trip a year to the Colander in Trail. I am now leaving in Kettle Falls, WA and a Rotarian.
