Flossie's Restaurant Description:
Despite an unlikely strip mall location near El Camino College, Flossie's delivers some of the best soul food around. This cafeteria-style café, here since 1991, has only eight tables, but the décor is charming. Paintings depict rural life in Mississippi, owner Sandra Foster's home state. Each meal includes an entrée, three sides, biscuit or cornbread, (dessert on Saturday and Sunday) and beverage. Flossie's offers a rotating selection of Southern classics: thick-stacked meatloaf; juicy fried chicken; and tender oxtails. An array of sides includes turnip greens, macaroni and cheese and candied yams. For dessert, we especially like the peach cobbler. On Sundays, Foster expands her menu to accommodate the post-church throng. Expect turkey dishes, cornbread dressing and blackberry cobbler. Beverages include iced sweet tea, a West Coast rarity sure to please homesick Southerners.
