Edge Restaurant & Lounge Description:
You can leave your cowboy hat at the door at The Edge, easily the hippest place in Old Town Temecula. One side is a rather sophisticated, elegantly appointed dining room, the other a lounge with water features, plush seating and seductive lighting. The cuisine is also a departure for conservative Temecula, with deconstructivism, global influences and molecular gastronomy popping up in chef Kevin Manolovitz's kitchen. For small plates, deconstructed French onion soup pairs a sweet onion-brandy broth with a cheese-griddled brioche, foie gras is served with honeycomb, and a miniature Monte Cristo sandwich gets a Cuban makeover. Beef Wellington is concentrated into a tasty one-bite morsel but a big plate of pot roast is elevated by the use of Kobe beef and demi-glace. The Edge's pricey surf 'n' turf is on steroids (figuratively speaking only), consisting of filet mignon, Maine lobster, foie gras, and fried scallops, served with a Cabernet reduction and lemon beurre blanc. Desserts include red velvet soufflé and interactive donut holes with various dipping sauces. An eclectic, well conceived wine list gives the requisite nod to local producers but draws from distant appellations as well. The polished service employs stylish touches like amuse-bouches, iced tea accompanied by a small decanter of simple syrup, and petits fours with the bill. Warning: The loud music from the lounge wafts into the dining room, so plan your visit accordingly.
