Sycamore Grill Description:
A l50-year-old sycamore tree still shades the veranda of the Sycamore Grill, the oldest extant structure in Stone Mountain Village (1836), originally named New Gibraltar. After a restoration by its original owners, chef Stephanie Falk and manager Susan Perkins, the building makes a charming setting for innovative Southern cuisine. Another chef Steph---this time Stephanie McCullough---makes all dishes from scratch, and serves the signature blackberry chicken salad that made the place so famous, as well as the hot crab and artichoke cheese dip served with toast points. Pecan butter graces the lightly grilled trout, replacing the toasted almond basil butter of yore. Painted Hills supplies the steaks, which may come as a flatiron with red wine peppercorn sauce or as a filet mignon with caramelized pearl onions, mushrooms and a brandy peppercorn cream. Desserts, which change daily, usually include quite better than most Key lime pie and good banana bread pudding. The wine list is a work in progress; it does need more work. We hope some day to see better tableware here, from glasses to plates and flatware. Wine dinners are a frequent special event.
