Cru Cafe & Catering Description:
Chef-owner John Zucker's Cru Café is a food lover's anchor on the edge of Charleston's market area, where things can be hit or miss. The lunch menu focuses on salads and sandwiches. Among the former is a Chinese chicken salad, a refreshing blend of julienned napa cabbage, carrots and daikon with a zingy ginger dressing. Caesar salads come with a choice of toppings including plum duck. Dinner keeps the lunch menu, but adds a variety of entrées. The steaks are consistently good---particularly the flavorful, tender Wagyu sirloin with smoked tomato caramel and Gorgonzola mousse. The warm, flourless chocolate torte has led the dessert list for quite a while now.
