Formerly a chain operation, the refurbished East Bay location is prime real estate along what is quickly becoming Charleston's restaurant row. Amen Street offers oysters served in every imaginable fashion, along with plenty of sustainable seafood options and sides that nicely complement. Knowledgeable servers direct diners through the litany of options, asking helpful questions about preferences to facilitate choosing the best seafood (Mongolian barbecue tilefish, anyone?) to suit your tastes. She crab soup is a litmus test for quality restaurants in Charleston, and Amen Street not only passes, but does so with a subtle kick of rich creamy flavor that is completely original. Chef Todd Garrigan's Famous Shrimp Corndogs are famous for a reason---one bite and you'll understand why. The wine list is sufficient to pair with the seafood options, while the bar hosts a hopping social scene in the late evenings. While certainly not the main attraction, the dessert menu serves its sweet purpose. The dessert trio offers a bite of strawberry shortcake, Key lime tart and chocolate mousse pie.
